چکیده

We consider the joint source-channel coding problem of sending a Gaussian source over a K-user Gaussian broadcast channel with bandwidth mismatch. A new outer bound to the achievable distortion region is derived using the technique of introducing more than one additional auxiliary random variable, which was previously used to derive sum-rate lower bound for the symmetric Gaussian multiple description problem. By combining this outer bound with the achievability result based on source-channel separation, we provide approximate characterizations of the achievable distortion region within constant multiplicative factors. Furthermore, we show that the results can be extended to general broadcast channels, and the performance of the source-channel separation based approach is also within the same constant multiplicative factors of the optimum. Index Terms Gaussian source, joint source-channel coding, squared error distortion measure.

Robust Distributed Source Coding with Arbitrary Number of Encoders and Practical Code Design Technique

The robustness property can be added to DSC system at the expense of reducing performance, i.e., increasing the sum-rate. The aim of designing robust DSC schemes is to trade off between system robustness and compression efficiency. In this paper, after deriving an inner bound on the rate–distortion region for the quadratic Gaussian MDC based RDSC system with two encoders, the structure of...

Joint source-channel coding of a Gaussian mixture source over the Gaussian broadcast channel

Suppose that we want to send a description of a source to two listeners through a Gaussian broadcast channel, where the channel is used once per each source sample. The minimum possible distortion D 2 that the bad receiver can obtain is D 2 = D(C 2), where D() is the distortion-rate function of the source and C 2 is the capacity of the bad channel. We want to nd the smallest achievable distorti...

Distortion Bounds for Source Broadcast Problem

This paper investigates the joint source-channel coding problem of sending a memoryless source over a memoryless broadcast channel. An inner bound and several outer bounds on the achievable distortion region are derived, which respectively generalize and unify several existing bounds. As a consequence, we also obtain an inner bound and an outer bound for degraded broadcast channel case. When sp...

We consider the problem of transmitting a Gaussian source on a slowly fading Gaussian channel, subject to the mean squared error distortion measure. The channel state information is known only at the receiver but not the transmitter. The source is assumed to be encoded in a successive refinement manner, and then transmitted over the channel using the broadcast strategy. In order to minimize the...
